Executive Director, Campaign for Popular Education (CAMPE) Vice-President Global Campaign for Education (GCE)

Educationist and social activist Rasheda K. Choudhury is a leading policy voice in Bangladesh with more than two decades of experience of working within and outside the government. Holding a Master’s Degree in English (Dhaka University), she has been serving since 1999 as the Executive Director (CEO) of the Campaign for Popular Education (CAMPE), a national coalition of more than a thousand NGOs, researchers and educator groups working in the education sector in Bangladesh. CAMPE is well known in the country for its evidence-based advocacy, pro-people programmes and campaigning capacity.

Ms Choudhury was Adviser (Minister) in 2008 in the non-party Interim Care Taker Government of Bangladesh which conducted a free and fair election and handed over power to the elected Government in January 2009. Her involvement in the government's decision-making process, even for a short period, has gained recognition for the education campaigners in the country. The pro-learner, pro-quality reforms that she introduced were later accepted and continued by the elected government,

Ms Choudhury also is the Co-Founder and elected Vice-President of the Global Campaign for Education (GCE), a civil society movement operating in more than 100 countries to make sure that States act to deliver the right of everyone to a free, quality public education. She is also an elected member of the CCNGO Coordination Group, a global institutional mechanism established by UNESCO for better Go-NGO-International collaboration in the education sector.

Ms Choudhury is currently Member Secretary of Education Watch, a civil society initiative that regularly reviews the status of Education For All (EFA) in Bangladesh and suggests pragmatic guidelines for improvement. It has inspired other such Watch initiatives in other countries of Asia-Pacific and Africa.
