Background information

As part of her working visit to Belgium, Angela Nakafeero presented to the Educaid.be members – in collaboration with Enabel - an overview of the key issues and strategies for girls' and women's education, training and employment in Uganda: how to improve girls' and women's lifelong learning in Uganda?

Angela is currently serving as the Commissioner Gender and Women Affairs of the Ministry of Gender, Labour and Social Development in Uganda. She spearheads the development, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of the National Gender Policy, Plans and Programs aimed at achieving Gender Equality and Women’s Empowerment. Angela also served as a Gender Technical Advisor for the Ministry of Education and Sports in Uganda and spearheaded the development and implementation of the National Strategic Plan on elimination of Violence Against Children in Schools between, the review of the gender in education policy and the development of training manuals. She was key in designing and conducting ground-breaking research on gender-based violence in learning institutions and the utilisation of findings and recommendations to inform education programs, projects and policies in Uganda.

From the importance of removing barriers for girls’ education in general education to the need of including specific measures for women to achieve decent work, Angela will take you on a journey through girls' and women's lifelong learning in Uganda for a moment of sharing.
