Dennis SINYOLO

Senior Coordinator Education and Employment Unit Education International

Dennis Sinyolo is in charge of EI’s education policy and employment programmes, including the Education for All (EFA) portfolio, Early Childhood Education (ECE), school leadership, the Quality Educators for All project, EI’s teacher migration and mobility campaign and related issues.

In addition, he is a member of the Commonwealth Teachers’ Group (CTG); the Commonwealth Advisory Council on Teacher Recruitment, Mobility and Migration; the Global Unions Working Group on Migration; UNESCO’s EFA Global Monitoring Report (GMR) Advisory Board and represents EI on the Steering Committee of the International Task Force on Teachers for EFA. He has also served as a member of the OECD’s Group of Experts on School Leadership and the Group of Experts on the Education of Migrant Children. He recently served as a member of the Group of Experts for the European Commission (EC) funded project on Competence Requirements in Early Childhood Education and represents the European Trade Union Committee for Education (ETUCE)-EI European Region, in the European Policy Network on School Leadership. Dennis has written several papers and articles on education and other social issues.

Born in Zimbabwe, Dennis obtained a Certificate in Education from Gwanda Teachers’ College and a Bachelor’s degree in Educational Administration, Planning and Policy Studies from the University of Zimbabwe. He then pursued a Masters in the same area at the Zimbabwe Open University, and a doctorate in Education Management with the University of South Africa.

Dennis started his teaching career as a primary school teacher, a position in which he remained for 14 years. He was also a part-time lecturer at the Zimbabwe Open University. As an activist for teachers' rights, Dennis served on the National Executive Board of the Zimbabwe Teachers' Association (ZIMTA) for 9 years. Dennis' work to improve the working conditions of teachers did not stop at the national level. He was an active member of Southern Africa Teachers' Organisation (SATO) and EI's African Regional Committee. He represented ZIMTA and EI in various fora, at both regional and international levels.
