Christine M. Mayondi is Director of the recently established (July 2015) Early Childhood Education (ECE) Directorate at the Ministry of General Education in Zambia. She is coordinating the development and implementation of the ECE program in the country. Through her Directorate, Christine is also coordinating collaboration efforts with various stakeholders, which include other line government ministries, non-governmental institutions, faith-based organisations, civil society organisations and development partners, in order to enhance implementation of ECE service delivery. Previously, Mrs Mayondi was a Deputy Permanent Secretary (2012-2015) in the Ministry of General Education (MoGE) and part of the team to develop, implement and monitor policies.

Mrs Mayondi is an educationist with experience from both the public and private sector. She was Head of Geography Department in a public secondary school. In the private sector, she was senior teacher in charge of the secondary section in the formative years of LICEF School, now one of the most successful and largest private schools in Zambia. She was also privileged to deputize in one private primary school and head another. Her teaching experience in private primary schools provide her with first-hand experience with Early Childhood Education (ECE).

She earned her BA Education at the University of Zambia where she is currently pursuing her Master’s Degree in Education Management. She also followed a training course on Assessing Special Needs Learners at the same institution.
