After the introduction of the topic by two highlevel keynote speakers, this session explores the use of a multidimensional approach to youth employability, or the ability of youth to access and retain employment. We propose that especially the most vulnerable youth, with low outcomes in education, health, social networks, and living conditions, benefit from a measurable and multidimensional approach to employability that – better than binary indicators on (un)employment, education level, … – grasps the complex nature of the intersecting challenges that youth face around employment. We illustrate this with a multidimensional youth employability index for South Africa and discuss our findings, leading into a discussion with the panellists and audience on the implications for youth policy makers and education practitioners.
