APEFE is the international partnership agency within the international relations department of the Wallonia-Brussels Federation and Wallonia, which has been active in different countries since 1976. APEFE implements programmes with the aim of fighting poverty and inequality by strengthening individual, organisational and institutional capacities.

APEFE's mission is to promote, organise and coordinate all forms of partnership and the knowledge and expertise sharing between the Wallonia-Brussels Federation, Wallonia and the partner countries.

It contributes to the implementation of sectoral policies in nine countries and has eight coordination offices: Belgium, Benin, Morocco, Palestine, Burkina Faso, Senegal, Burundi, Rwanda and the DRC.

APEFE supports and promotes the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). It is ensuring that its strategies align with these goals. It means defining priorities among the SDGs to target efforts and derive maximum benefit from them; aligning with the SDGs by identifying key performance indicators; integrating the SDGs by anchoring sustainable development objectives in activities, integrating key performance indicators into all processes; and developing communications that report on APEFE's contributions to the SDGs. Concerning SDG 17, APEFE is convinced that working in partnership is the only way to achieve greater efficiency and even more sustainability.

APEFE is funded by the Belgian federal government (DGD), Wallonie-Bruxelles International (WBI), Wallonia, the European Union and the Belgian Development Agency (Enabel).
