Mrs Barua obtained her master in Bengali Literature at the University of Chittagong. In 1994, together with her husband Prasum Barua, she lead the then recently established Buddhist childcare home, Jagat Jyoti Children Welfare Home, in Ramu, Ramkot. There she introduced dance, theatre, music and other cultural initiatives. Meanwhile, she built experience as a teacher in the neighbouring high school. In 2012 she started her own primary school, Jagat Jyoti Primary School, where she is responsible for the daily coordination of the school.
