Vision

At Geomoun, we believe that a fairer society, one that shows more empathy and respect for human rights and the environment, can only be built if everyone is given the opportunity to voice their opinions and exercise their right to active citizenship.

To achieve this goal, dialogue is essential, and we must encourage cohesion among the various players within the same community. Children must be given the opportunity to develop their critical thinking and question the world around them. Educated and engaged youth, as well as women aware of gender equality, can take action at their own level, thus increasing opportunities for a better future and breaking the cycle of poverty.

In Haiti

In the Southeast (Jacmel): Geomoun supports RESEDH (Réseau du Sud-Est de Défense des Droits Humains), which promotes the establishment of community networks by creating space for dialogue among local spiritual leaders, authorities, schools, and organizations. These exchanges enable remote rural communities, which survive without government assistance, roads, access to schools, or healthcare, to become more assertive.

In Port-Au-Prince: Geomoun collaborates with Timkatec, a shelter and educational institution providing primary and vocational education for 500 children and youth from the most vulnerable populations.

In Benin

  • By educating various target groups about their rights and their ability to advocate for them;
  • By promoting a change in mindset among local authorities, traditional and religious leaders, local associations, women's groups, schools, and parents to foster respect for rights and fairness;
  • By supporting a shelter for children who are victims of abuse (migration, domestic servitude, etc.).

In Belgium

Geomoun promotes the right to participation for children and youth by:

  • Setting up concrete projects with partner countries:
    • 'Le son d’enfants': school classes in Belgium, Benin, Togo, Haiti, and Senegal communicate with each other through sound recordings. Together, students discuss major global issues, reflect on the connections between societal challenges, and take action as they are the key players in today’s world.
    • Geomove: an international network of engaged youth aimed at:
      • Encouraging and fostering social involvement among children and youth aged 6 to 26;
      • Providing a space for discussion and exchange on this topic;
      • Enabling them to inspire each other and find funding.
    • 'Le son des jeunes': a podcast channel focused on youth engagement.
    • Training for primary school teachers, accredited by IFPC (Institut de la Formation Professionnelle Continue), on stereotypes and prejudices in the classroom and the right to participation in the classroom.
    • Policy influencing through the platform Educaid.be, PKIO (Platform for Children's Rights in Development Cooperation), and Acodev.
