UNICEF is the United Nations Children's Fund, active in 189 countries and territories to protect and promote children's rights. To achieve this, it implements both development and emergency programmes.
UNICEF is dedicated to giving children and young people a childhood where they are protected, healthy, educated, and able to fully develop in a safe and healthy environment. This is done without discrimination based on gender, skin colour, nationality, religion, physical or mental disabilities, etc. These objectives, or what we aim to achieve for every child, are our 5 priorities for the 2022-2026 period:
- Every child, including adolescents, survives, thrives, and has access to nutritious food, quality basic health services, dedicated care, and essential supplies.
- Every child, including adolescents, learns and acquires skills for the future.
- Every child, including adolescents, is protected from violence, exploitation, abuse, neglect, and harmful practices.
- Every child, including adolescents, has safe and equitable access to water, sanitation, and hygiene, and lives in safe and sustainable climate and environmental conditions.
- Every child, including adolescents, has access to inclusive social protection and lives free from poverty.
UNICEF in Belgium
The Belgian Committee for UNICEF, or UNICEF Belgium, represents UNICEF in Belgium under a recognition agreement signed with the United Nations Children's Fund. Our mission is to draw the necessary attention from the general public, businesses, and governments to children's rights in general and to UNICEF's programmes in particular. To carry out our mission, we work on several levels:
- Fundraising to finance our international activities;
- Advocating for and defending children's rights through policy influence and focusing on children's rights education.
