Ghent University collaborates through various channels on Higher Education and Science for Sustainable Development with universities, research institutions, and colleges for applied science in the Global South.
This collaboration takes many forms. In addition to various individual scholarship opportunities, both for Flemish students and those from the Global South, and training programs (from short summer courses to full master’s programs), there are projects in partnership with institutions in the Global South to build capacity in all aspects of scientific research and higher education. In many of the projects, further expansion of scientific knowledge is facilitated in the respective countries. Many of the institutions are indeed able to offer good educational programmes, but often lack experience in obtaining more research results and translating these results into societal impact.
Within UGent, several regional platforms are active in bundling and making available initiatives and expertise per region.
UGent is happy to collaborate with NGOs, governments, and companies to strengthen the impact of our activities.
