Since 1983, Plan International Belgium has been striving for a better world for all children, with a particular focus on girls' rights. This begins with ensuring equal opportunities so that every girl can be free.
We fight this battle in more than 80 countries, including Belgium, until society changes and becomes truly equal. Until every girl feels safe. Until she can show the world who she is and what she wants. Until she can realise her dreams.
We challenge gender stereotypes and support equal opportunities for girls and boys. We do this in the interest of all children, as it is the only way to respect the International Convention on the Rights of the Child.
Every day, in every country, girls experience violence and discrimination. During humanitarian and climate crises, this negative spiral is exacerbated. Their rights are violated; they are often excluded from education and participation in society due to inappropriate structures or harmful gender norms. Because they are believed to belong in the home.
Yet, they show their strength and make their voices heard! Girls are champions of change. They are aware of their rights and claim them, both in their immediate surroundings and in the wider community. And we support them in this. Both in and outside Belgium, our programmes guide children and young people in their empowerment, emancipation, social engagement and leadership development.
We provide them with opportunities to learn in school, to drive change in their communities, to make decisions about their own lives and bodies, and to develop free from violence. From birth to adulthood.
