The Agence universitaire de la Francophonie is a worldwide association of French-speaking higher education and research establishments created over 60 years ago. It brings together more than 1,000 universities on five continents in 120 countries. It is also the higher education and research arm of the Francophonie Summit.
The AUF works to ensure that French-speaking universities are committed to the economic, social and cultural development of their societies.
It operates in 10 regions around the world, including Western Europe.
Based in Brussels since 2001, the Western Europe regional office coordinates a network of 202 members in 11 countries: Andorra, Belgium, France, Germany, Greece, Italy, Luxembourg, Malta, Portugal, Spain and Switzerland.
The geographical position of the Western Europe regional office in Brussels, at the institutional and decision-making heart of Europe, makes it a relevant intermediary between the AUF's various regional offices around the world, and the major international organizations located on its territory that are likely to invest in projects meeting the objectives and themes prioritized by the Agency: North-South, South-North and South-South university cooperation, within the framework of projects promoting the development of higher education, research and university governance.
