Artevelde University of Applied Sciences distinguishes itself through innovative and high-quality higher education, practice-oriented scientific research, entrepreneurship, sustainability, internationalisation, and the professional and personal guidance of diverse student groups.

The university is actively working towards the realisation of the Bologna objectives for 2020, which aim to graduate more higher education students. Most programs offer flexible options, making it possible to combine studying with work and family. Additionally, there is a growing range of lifelong learning opportunities.

The university establishes strong regional and international ties by connecting with strategic partners in a qualitative and sustainable manner.

Regionally, this is evidenced by intensive collaboration in projects with Ghent University, the city of Ghent, the Province of East Flanders, and numerous schools, companies, and hospitals. Regional partnerships are further strengthened in both East and West Flanders through our HBO5 partner programs within the Artevelde learning network. Many community service learning projects from various study programs assist disadvantaged groups in the city. The university also makes special efforts to guide students from these groups into higher education and support them during their studies for a successful career.

Internationally, the university is a recognized institution of quality, attractive to international partners. It participates in numerous strategic international networks, including those beyond Europe. Contributing to this are student and staff mobility, as well as intensive cooperation in education, research, and service. The university is a sought-after partner in the international educational space both within and outside Europe.

The university fulfills its societal role by developing active knowledge centres. Research and service provision, along with a lifelong learning offer in various partnerships, in mutual interaction with the professional field and society, enhance the university’s quality image.
