Murhabazi Namegabe, born in 1964 in Bukavu (DR Congo), is a human rights defender who comes from a humble background shaped by war. From a very young age, he has been committed to helping children affected by poverty and violence.
A graduate of the ISTM (The Higher Institute of Medical Technology) in Bukavu, he became programme director at BVES (Bureau pour le Volontariat au service de l’Enfance et de la Santé - Office for Volunteering in Support of Children and Health), an organisation he helped to found to protect vulnerable children and those recruited into armed forces and groups.
For over 30 years, he has worked to reintegrate children affected by armed conflict, helping to save tens of thousands of children. His work has earned him international recognition and several prestigious awards, despite constant threats linked to his commitment.
