FASI was founded on 1 December 2012 by 24 associations for international solidarity (associations de solidarité internationale, ASI).

Objectives

  • To represent the ASI from (mainly) Wallonia and Brussels to institutions.

Compared to the other development actors such as NGOs, cities and municipalities, universities, etc., the activities of associations for international solidarity are little known. One reason for this is that the ASI do not have a representative body.

  • Emphasise the ASI's position as development actor

In direct connection with the previous objective, it is important to emphasise that the ASI is a full partner and actor, and should be recognised as such by the Federal authorities.

  • Strengthen synergy between associations

Each association has numerous capacities and resources, which can be better utilised by sharing them. Experiences, approaches, implementation strategies, specific knowledge and the sharing of local contacts in the South or in Belgium are all areas where synergy can increase the ASI's clout.

  • Strengthen the associations' capacities

Testing one's own projects against new or different approaches can strengthen the capacities of each of FASI's members.

How will synergies be organised?

Identification of actors by theme:

  • culture, social inclusion, migration
  • economy and micro-credit
  • sensitisation
  • water, hygiene, waste management
  • agriculture and food security
  • health
  • education and training

Identification of actors by continent and country (unlimited list):

  • Benin, Burma, Burkina Faso, Burundi, DR Congo, Ecuador, Gambia, Ghana, Haiti, Ivory Coast, Cameroon, Kenya, Malawi, Mali, Morocco, Moldova, Nicaragua, Niger, Nigeria, Uganda, Ukraine, Romania, Rwanda, Senegal, Togo, Zambia, etc.

What is an ASI?

The main social objective of an ASI is international solidarity, including international development cooperation and/or education.

The ASI officially has the status of a non-profit organisation, international non-profit organisation, foundation or de facto association and has its social seat in Belgium.

It creates and maintains direct contacts with its various local, regional and international partners and defends values such as solidarity and citizenship.

The ASI subscribes to a perspective of social change. Its objective is the satisfaction of basic needs in sectors such as:

  • health
  • access to potable water
  • food sovereignty
  • education
  • decent work
  • gender equality
  • protection of the environment
  • the abolition of all forms of exploitation and discrimination.
