CEBioS – ‘Capacities for Biodiversity and Sustainable Development’ – is a programme financed by the Directorate-General for Development Cooperation (DGD) and housed at the Institute of Natural Sciences , where it belongs to the Operational Directorate ‘Natural Environment’ and more specifically the BioPolS group (Belgian Biodiversity Policy Support Group).

CEBioS assists partner countries of the Belgian Development Cooperation to implement the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) as well as other international agreements related to the sustainable use and conservation of biodiversity.

CEBioS in Short

  • mutually strengthening own capacities and those of partners in developing countries
  • focus on the description, monitoring, conservation, sustainable use and management of biodiversity
  • dedicated workshops, calls for projects, short term scholarships, earmarked cooperation with institutional partners
  • promoting scientific research, knowledge dissemination, public awareness
  • understanding and influencing the science-policy interface to contribute to informed decision-making
