From 29-31 March 2017, the UK will be hosting the 7th International Summit on the Teaching Profession (ISTP) in Scotland. Since its inaugural edition in 2011 in New York City, the ISTP has become an important forum for open and constructive exchange on effective teacher policies and practices. It assembles governments and teacher organisations from a number of high-performing and rapidly improving school systems, as certified by recent results of the Programme for International Student Assessment (PISA).

The 2017 Summit is jointly organised by the UK and Scottish Government, the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) and Education International (EI).

The main theme of the 2017 ISTP will be “Empowering and Enabling Teachers to Delivery greater Equity and Improved Outcomes for All”.  Three thematic ISTP sessions will include discussions on:

  • What do teachers need in terms of professional learning and development, now and in the future, to support their work?
  • What can governments and unions do to ensure the most appropriate national structures and policy environments are in place to support this?
  • Striving for Sustainable Excellence & Equity in Learning.
