Annual Conference 2015

Given the security situation in Brussels and after a negative advice from the Crisis Centre we had to decide, to our great regret, to cancel the conference. Annual Conference 2015: Education and the Sustainable Development Goals. Challenges and Opportunities

Brussels, 24 November 2015

In September 2015, 193 world leaders committed to 17 global Goals for sustainable development to end extreme poverty, fight inequality and injustice, and protect our planet by 2030. Due to its transformative power, education is key to the success of every one of the 17 new goals. In pledging to ensure 12 years of quality education for all children and lifelong learning opportunities for everyone by 2030, the goal on education (SDG 4) is more ambitious in scope than any that have preceded it.

How will the world proceed to implement SDG 4 in the coming 15 years? How will education itself need to transform if it is to truly act as a motor for sustainable development? And what can be expected from development cooperation, to help make this happen?

As in previous editions, the conference aims to enrich discussion on education and development issues by giving the floor to academics and researchers, policy-makers and practitioners from all over the world.

Two keynote speeches will set the scene, providing a general contextualisation and the implication of the SDGs for development cooperation education actors. Three panels will then focus on different aspects of education for sustainable development and examine in a critical way the challenges and opportunities ahead.
